How to start reading Superman or Batman comics?

I'm reading Ultimate Spider-Man and really enjoying it. I want to start either Batman or Superman when I finish. I don't want to read something that is 40 years old or that has a billion issues already out. Are there any newer versions of Batman or Superman, like Spiderman had Ultimate Spiderman? If not, where should I start with either of those comics?|||Yes there is a similar version of the "Ultimate" series for Batman and Superman called "Earth One." So far, the first edition of "Superman: Earth One" has been published and "Batman: Earth One" is scheduled for this year. They are published as original graphic novels, not serialised comic books but they tell the origin from the beginning without 40 (or 75!) years coming before it.

They also have a series called "All-Star." So there's a series called "All-Star Superman" and an "All-Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder." These stories aren't tied down by the continuity of what came before, but they don't start the story from the beginning. Clark is already working at the Daily Planet, Superman has been known for years etc. The Batman one also got terrible reviews.

And, as someone else said earlier, DC will start over with new issue #1s this September, but they won't start at the beginning of the story here either, so what has come before will matter. It will just be told in a way that is friendly to new readers.

My advice would be to pick up a graphic novel like Superman: Secret Origin and Batman: Year One, which tells the origin story of the heroes and then jump in this September. You never have to worry about reading all the issues before, because if something is important to the story, the writers will always have a character talk about the important event, or show you in a flashback so that you know what's going on.|||DC is rebooting its entire universe, just wait for Batman or Superman #1 to come out|||idk...
