Should Superman get a new costume or is it a classic that shouldn't be altered?

Unlike many of his contemporaries Superman has had about the same costume for many decades now. Because of that some consider the costume an icon or classic that shouldn't be touched. Others consider it stale and one of the last hold outs of the underwear-outside-the-pants gang.

What do you think? Change it or leave it alone?|||he should just update it a bit.

.|||Superman has been a brand almost since the beginning and brands probably shouldn't be altered. The Sun-Maid Raisin girl has been slimmed down in accordance with contemporary style but frankly, I think that was something of a mistake. We are being sold comic-book women even on our food.

Superman's costume was based on that of Circus Acrobats. I do think we should remember these people and obviously don't think we should change it.|||It has been tried several times, but it's just never quite worked. No matter what change are made, it just never looks as iconic as the original. The only changes that have ever really worked for him are probably from Kingdom Come in which his costume got a little darker, in order to represent the more serious tone of his comeback.|||I wouldn't mind seeing a different spin on it, but not if just out of the blue Superman decides that he'd be more comfortable with underwear inside his costume.

Probably would need to be a story behind it, like (at least in the movies, havent read the comics) Batman got a new one because he wanted to be more light and able to turn his head, and Spidey's got a black one due to that goo stuff.

I think you understand where I'm going with this.|||certain 'tweaks' make sense in the context of given arcs... as noted Kingdom Come... or the stretch in the late 90's when his Powers were altered and he was two people

But in the grand scheme the Blue body suit, and red boots, cape, \S/ and trunks and yellow accents (belt, \S/ background, \S/ on the cape and occasionally some piping on the boots) should and will always be his default... Part of why Smallville set up "No Tights No Flights" as their limitations was because they were correct in stating that those 2 things combined are what define Superman|||I personally think he needs to lose the cape. The only hero that has a reason for a cape is batman robin etc. people who don't have powers. I also think he should just lose the pants and the shirt. Yeah it'll look like a speedo but since he's inshape it'll work, and shockingly be less corny.|||Leave it alone, but as far as my childhood heroes go I'm a traditionalist.|||superman rose from the dead?!?!

ALL RIGHT! i can't wait to text lois lane|||That would be really cool.
